3 Lenses That Make Your Food Video Look Amazing

Think about a video where honey is dripping slowly on a warm pastry. Or a knife cutting through a juicy steak. These are the shots that make people stop scrolling and want to order food right away.

That kind of shot does not happen by luck. It happens because the videographer used the right lens at the right time.

At Peace Productions, we have filmed many kitchens, restaurants, and food brands. And we have learned one simple thing: good food videography is not just about lighting or a good chef. It is also about the lens you use. The right lens can make food look so real that people can almost taste it.

Here are the three most important lenses every food videographer should have, and why each one is useful.

1. Macro Lens: For Close-Up Details

Have you noticed how food ads always have that one super close shot? Cheese stretching, sugar sparkling on a donut, water drops on a cold glass. This is what a macro lens is for.

A 90mm macro lens lets you get very close to the food without disturbing the plate. It shows small details that we normally do not notice, like the layers in a croissant or the bubbles in a cold drink. This lens makes food look extra tasty and real.

Example shot: Caramel pouring slowly over ice cream, filmed with a 90mm macro lens, where every drop is sharp and clear. This is the kind of shot people save and share.

2. 85mm Lens: For the Hero Shot

If the macro lens shows small details, the 85mm lens shows the full beauty of the dish. It blurs the background nicely and makes the food the main focus of the shot.

This lens works great even in low light, like inside a cozy restaurant. It gives food videos a soft, cinematic look, almost like a food magazine photo.

Example shot: A plate of pasta with steam rising, background blurred softly. This is the shot that makes people want to order that dish immediately.

3. 24-70mm Lens: For Wide and Action Shots

Not every food video needs a close-up shot. Sometimes you need to show movement, like a chef cooking, hands plating food, or a wide shot of the full table. This is where the 24-70mm lens is useful.

This one lens can cover both wide shots and medium shots, so you do not need to keep changing lenses during a shoot. This makes it very useful for busy sets.

Example shot: A wide shot of a full table setup, then the camera moves closer to show the chef adding final touches, all using the same lens.

One More Lens Worth Knowing

These three lenses cover almost everything needed in food videography. But if you also film restaurant interiors or wide shots of the kitchen space, a 16-35mm wide lens can be
